A traditional blend, this rich and seductive wine has ripe cherry and plum aromas, along with minty and milk-chocolate nuances. Medium-bodied, the robust berry and fudge flavors finish with a creamy texture. Pairs nicely with red meat entrees and spicy stews or soups. Enjoy now or cellar-age until 2018.
Vintage 2006
The 2006 vintage began with record rainfall, keeping soil temperatures down and delaying bud-break by several weeks. The summer was warm and dry, and the late start to the ripening season allowed for slower ripening and long hang-time in the cool autumn. Overall lower sugars resulted in moderate alcohol and complex, fruity aromas without raisiny notes.
Winemaking
Crafting a balanced, elegant Meritage is both a pleasure and a challenge. Each varietal was harvested at optimum ripeness, and fermented using special Bordeaux yeast strains, gentle handling and meticulous attention to detail. Barrel-aged separately, when the bouquet and structure were sufficiently developed, the final bottling blend was arrived at after hours of blending and tasting.
